My dear friend Denise, and fellow small business owner, bonded over love and loss. These are her words to describe her daughter Flora. When my husband and I discovered the name Flora on a trip to Scotland nearly ten years ago, we immediately fell in love with it. While there, we learned about the remarkable Scottish heroine Flora MacDonald, known for her courage, quiet strength and bravery. Her story stayed with us long after we returned home, and for many years as we tried several times to start a family. When we finally welcomed our daughter, the name Flora felt perfect. To us, its represents strength, resilience and beauty—qualities we hope Flora carries with her throughout her life.
